DAS Mk 2: Campfire Western Knife

The DAS Mk 2 is a compact, hard-use general-purpose knife shaped by the tools of the early American West.

Designed and built by ABS Journeyman Bladesmith and Forged in Fire Champion Steve Grosvenor, the Mk 2 pairs traditional proportions with modern blade geometry and metallurgy. Its three-finger design keeps the knife small enough to carry anywhere, while a wider handle, jimped thumb rise, and integral finger guard give you a secure grip when it is time to put it to work.

The blade is forged from tough 80CrV2 carbon steel, normalized, put through a triple grain-refinement sequence, and tempered to 61–62 HRC. A convex primary bevel creates a strong cutting edge with excellent slicing performance, while the 20-degree secondary edge provides a versatile geometry suited for everyday camp, field, and general-purpose work.

A tapered full tang and distal-tapered blade remove unnecessary weight and improve balance without sacrificing the strength of full-tang construction. The handle is built from campfire red canvas Micarta, secured with chemical-resistant marine epoxy and two bronze pins. No finger grooves means the knife remains comfortable in multiple grips instead of forcing your hand into a single position.

The Parkerized blade finish provides a durable, slightly porous surface that helps hold protective oil against the carbon steel. For regular maintenance, we recommend a light coat of food-safe mineral oil.

Each Mk 2 rides in a traditional belt-pouch sheath made with a Hermann Oak leather interior and American bison exterior.

Compact enough to disappear on your belt. Strong enough to earn its place there.
